Sources close to “Iron Man” star Robert Downey Jr. say he deserves about 25 times as much as Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans, and about ten times as much as Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson for his role in the Avengers 2. We can’t resist some good gossip here on Blair Stover Hollywood, so read on to find out what we’ve sussed out from the news.

You might have heard of the multi-million dollar deal that Robert Downey Jr. was able to negotiate for his involvement in The Avengers. The actor received $50 million dollars due to negotiations that gave him a percentage of profit sharing. This amount, however, is nothing compared to the amount that is currently wafting through the rumor mill for the sequel.

Robert Downey Jr. wants to play his major role in the Avengers 2 movie and the fourth part of Iron Man, yet wants to earn a bigger piece of the pie as well. With the franchise promising to deliver on projected, big numbers, RDJ is asking for higher pay to the tune of $100 million. In comparison, the current highest paid actor is a well-deserved Tom Cruise, thanks to the sensational success of Mission: Impossible and Ghost Protocol, making a good $75 million.

A good basis for Robert Downey Jr.’s $100 million offer is the box office results of Iron Man 3. The sales are currently over the $1 billion dollar mark. In such sums, giving $100 million to Robert Downey Jr. shouldn’t be a problem. Marvel, however, is notorious for slow negotiations and it is no surprise that deliberations are slow in happening.

One thing is certain, The Avengers 2 is set for April, 30 2015. Whether Robert Downey Jr. will play Tony Stark or if he will be replaced is still up in the air.

Who would you like to see play Iron Man should Marvel decline to sign on RDJ again?

Joss Whedon Discusses Plans for Avengers Sequel

September 19, 2012

Joss Whedon is certainly one of the main reasons for the huge commercial success of “The Avengers”. In fact, the movie sits at the No. 3 spot on the highest grossing films of all time. Blair Stover has all the details about the blockbuster hit below.

Whedon, who directed other hits like “Serenity” and “Cabin in the Woods”, has decided to write the screenplay for “Avengers 2″. That decision was during the Disney Investors Conference Call along with the confirmation that Whedon was involved in the development of a television series, with a “Marvel theme” with the U.S. network ABC.

Most recently, Whedon was still undecided whether he could handle the job effectively- certainly the negotiation of a final salary increase played a role. “The Avengers” was surely a success as many observers had expected, but with over $1.4 billion dollars at the global box office, no one had expected that outcome.

Quite naturally, the decision for Whedon was not a hard one. After all, before Joss Whedon was the Iron Man director- Jon Favreau was the only filmmaker who could turn more than a film into a franchise.

“Avengers 2″ will hit theaters in three years but the specific date is still open. At the San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios unveiled its plans for the second phase of the “Marvel Cinematic Universe” which will be in the summer of 2014 (Comic-Con: Marvel Studios’ plans for the coming years). Accordingly, Marvel Studios movies come in the following order: “Iron Man 3″, “Thor: The Dark World”, “Captain America: Winter Soldier” and “Guardians of the Galaxy”. “Ant-Man”, which is from director Edgar Wright is also planned, but was halted due to the busy schedule of the director. There are still no specific plans for a launch date at this time.
