Ashley Judd Considering a Run for the U.S. Senate

Hollywood actress, Ashley Judd, may be pursuing a seat in the U.S. Senate. Blair Stover reports on this shocking political move.

Judd is seriously debating whether or not she should run in the 2014 campaign against the top Senate Republican, Mitch McConnell, for the Kentucky Senate seat. She has discussed her potential political career with New York Senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, and is also doing opposition research on herself to gauge her weaknesses.

Kentucky Rep. John Yarmuth had this to say after speaking with Judd, “She is doing all the things that a serious candidate exploring a race should do. I think there are a lot of people, and I was one of them, who wanted to let her know that her candidacy would be an exciting prospect for us.”

McConnell’s campaign manager, Jesse Benton, had this to say regarding Judd’s possible run, “It’s going to sting. We’re going to make sure that you don’t come out with your nose clean. We’re going to drive your negatives up and very aggressively and publicly litigate your record before the citizens of Kentucky.”

Judd’s spokeswoman did not comment on these reports but the actress has previously said that she was honored by the suggestions that she should run for office.

Judd recently attended the Democratic National Convention as a delegate from Tennessee, where she is currently living. Judd has been outspoken on her opinions of abortion rights and environmental causes.

With her degree from University of Kentucky and her master’s degree from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, a political career may be a great next step for Judd.
